Municipal Elections

 There are 40 precincts within the Fairbanks North Star Borough established by the State. See FNSBC Title 5 - Elections.

A Regular Municipal election is held annually in the Fairbanks North Star Borough on the first Tuesday in October. The next Regular Municipal Election is October 2, 2018.

How to Run for Local Office

10 a.m. to Noon

Have you ever considered running for local office but don't know where to start?

If you think you might run this year or in the future, this open house is for you.


The local Municipal Clerk's will be hosting a candidate open house on Saturday, July 7th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Chambers, 907 Terminal Street, Fairbanks.


Clerk staff will be available to answer questions about running for local office. Printed materials will be available with information about becoming a candidate for the FNSB Mayor, Assembly and School Board, the Interior Gas Utility Board (IGU), and the City of Fairbanks Council and the City North Pole Mayor and Council.



Notice of Office Vacancies

This year the Fairbanks North Star Borough will have elective seats open for the offices of Borough Mayor,  Borough Assembly, School Board, and Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility Board (IGU). In order for a candidate's name to appear on the ballot, qualified candidates must declare candidacy and submit the required paperwork to the Borough Clerk between 8:00 AM July 16th and 4:30 PM July 30th.
